Reports are coming in from all over the place. Our calls, letters, and town meetings are starting to work. Keep up the good work and don’t be discouraged!
Trump released his budget, and he wants to cut everything that actually does make America great. (Robert Reich doesn’t think it’ll get anywhere, and below I’ve got links to how you can help defeat it. If you missed his most recent Resistance Report video, watch it now!)
Trump snubbed Angela Merkel, the new leader of the free world. He really can’t handle strong women.
Robert Reich slammed Trump for being cruel.
As always, that’s just the tip of the iceberg but I suspect by now you’re following one or more of the people I recommend every week!
What can you do?
Resist the budget — here’s how to get started, from Indivisible Guide.
Find out if there are any emergency protests in your area. Be ready to go. Make sacrifices to protect those who are more vulnerable than you are. We drove 4 hours yesterday to go to a 1 1/2 hour march and protest.
Attend Immigrant, Refugee, and Black Lives Matter events. It’s best to follow a local organization or two to keep up with this. Most are posting events on Facebook now. So do a Facebook search or start with this guide, and learn more on these websites:
Do the follow up after the protest. Get involved in LOCAL politics, not just national. Keep calling your reps, writing letters, spreading the word to your friends, and so forth. Make a little time every day for this and it’ll become as much a part of your life as brushing your teeth.
Start spreading real news, information, and love. This week I saw several articles about people hanging up signs in different places. One was hateful and promoted white supremacy. Another was in support of Planned Parenthood. My new project for spring is all about making little ornaments of hearts, snowflakes, flowers, and other things and attaching them to letter-sized posters and flyers about diversity, immigration, climate change, science facts, and other topics that are on my mind. I’m working on another mini ebook with patterns and printable signs, but you can start now with some free patterns on Ravelry and make your own signs by hand or in a word processing program.
Check out my What’s New, Pussyhat? ebook for my Missoni-inspired pussyhat patterns, a bunch of sketches of my knitting friends wearing their pussyhats, and more links with tips on how you can be part of the resistance.
