Hi everyone. The year is wrapping up. I’m glad. The year of 2017 sucked in a lot of ways for so many people. Not just politically, but also personally. I’m ready for a new year, starting fresh with a bright new outlook and a plan to resist, smash, create, and knit. How about you?
Who knows! To be honest, I haven’t been paying much attention over the holidays. I signed up for an emergency notification in case Trump tried to fire Mueller or something equally stupid, but so far that hasn’t happened. (Probably because he’s been too busy tweeting bullshit and golfing. Maybe that’s a blessing.)
I’ll be following the news less on a daily basis in 2018, and using Amy’s list as well as Daily Action texts to keep up with what to Resistbot my reps about. I need to get more work done in 2017. Making things—writing, drawing, knitting, whatever—is a way to resist and I need to do more of that in the coming year.
What Can You Do Next?
Women’s March 2018. Yes it’s happening. I can’t tell now if it’ll be as big as last year, but there are events being scheduled all over the USA. If you don’t see your location listed in the events on this page, check the Pussyhat Project page and contact your local Indivisible Groups and other activist groups to see what’s going on in your area.
(As far as I can tell the official Women’s March organization is not involved, which is hugely disappointing to me. But they are having a big event in Las Vegas on Jan 20th.)
Get Out the Vote! Find out how you can get involved in getting out the vote in your state. Check out the Sister District Project and Swing Left, and sign up to help one of these organizations. We have to overcome the gerrymandering and voter suppression of the GOP and take back our country at the polls in 2018.
Right now, you can make more pussyhats (hurry!) for the 2018 Women’s March events on January 20 and 21st.
I’ll continue making Resistance Update blog posts a couple of times every month in 2018 and I’ll fill you in on more Craftivism project ideas. I’m also hosting a Craftivism Camp online course! Registration will open on January 2oth to celebrate the first anniversary of the biggest protest in world history.
