Knit that Cable Knitting Retreat 2

Cable Illustration. Your project for this retreat will be a hat with cable. Brand new pattern by Designer Donna.

In this workshop, knitting designer and teacher Donna Druchunas will help you overcome your pattern and chart-reading fears as she clarifies and simplifies abbreviations and chart symbols. Donna will teach you how to knit cables with and without cable needles so you can choose the method that suits your knitting style best. Working through a series of swatches, you’ll learn basic cables, both asymmetrical and symmetrical cables, traveling stitches, right and left twists, braids, diamonds, and more complex cables. Plus, you’ll learn how to block your cable projects and prevent and fix mistakes. Our project will be a hat.

During the 1970s and ’80s, my grandmother must have made at least two dozen sweaters decorated with the cable designs she called “Irish patterns.” Today sweaters knitted with these elaborate cable patterns are known as Aran sweaters, named after the islands with which they are identified. Rope, braid, and knot cable patterns used in sweaters and accessories are also found in Scandinavia and other parts of the British Isles.

*Intermediate to expert skills
