Getting things done?

Sometimes I feel like time is passing by and I am not getting anything done. Yes, I know I am on the trip of a lifetime and I need to just enjoy the experience. But I also have a day job and a book to finish and I planned for this to be a long working retreat, full of writing and knitting, except for a couple of short summer holiday breaks. But today I feel like the summer is slipping away with nothing to show for it. So to try to counteract that negativity, I’m going to the movies. But first, a few summer accomplishments, in no particular order:

3 pairs of socks knitted
4 articles written
4 new designs sold
Summer of Lace blog series published
Test knitters lined up for KnitPicks IDP
Taught at UK Knit Camp
Developed Shetland Lace workshop
Spent time with friends
Did some sightseeing
Attended a writer’s conference
Set up a store to sell ebooks
Shot video in several cool places
Trained a new guy at the day job
Hours and hours of other day job stuff

I’m sure there are other things I’ve crossed off my to do lists as well. But that’s all I feel like writing. I have a short attention span today. Iki.

Thanks Cynthia. We never made it to the movies because we didn’t want to go to the cinema at the mall — the one we knew how to get to! — and we didn’t find the other location. Should have taken a cab! But at any rate, we watched a movie at home and I did some knitting and went to sleep. This morning started out with the same shitty mood, but we went for a nice walk and I found a fabulous book on Lithuanian history which got me started writing for my blog and the book and that’s all it took to change my mood. Well, that and I ran into a friend on the street and couldn’t help smiling. We didn’t get together yesterday because I was in such a foul mood, but we will be talking again soon.

Live is more complicated than I’d like it to be sometimes. But sometimes it’s just simple and we make it too complicated!!!!

Next year staying home? We’ll see! At least for summer, I want to be in my house, on my boat, picking veggies and berries in my own backyard, and enjoying my house that my husband has been fixing up to our personal specifications for the past ten years…

    Donna,
Thanks for sharing this great post. I love doing this – listing what I’ve done – because we so easily forget!

I also appreciate that you pointed out a real difficulty in what you’re doing – balancing – both in mind and actions – the fact that you’re traveling/visiting another place AND running a business.

I found it challenging to hold both – and I finally figured it out. It had a lot to do with giving myself permission to do whatever the frick I wanted to and no one need know. Like going back to bed at 10 am in Paris because that’s what I needed to do, not get out there and MAKE THE MOST OF IT.

I also like the slightly grumpy photo of you.

Keep on keepin’ on, in your wonderful way and style. We’re all rooting for you!
