Materials: A sweater that fits you perfectly and one that does not fit well. A pattern you want to customize to fit.
Experience: Intermediate. Knitters should have basic skills and have made at least one sweater from a pattern. Paper, pencil, calculator. Any spare yarn for swatching and appropriately sized needles.
Ever wonder what makes one sweater fit like a dream and another hang off your body like a paper sack? I did until I learned about sweater shapes and silhouettes. In this class we will look at a variety of different sweater shapes, including drop shoulder and modified drop shoulder designs, raglan and yoke sweaters, saddle shoulders and tailored garments. We will talk about how gauge and fiber play into fit and discuss drape, ease and shaping options that you can use to modify patterns and even to design your own custom-fitting garments. We will also cover that most elusive of all questions: how can I be sure the sleeves will be the perfect length? We will answer these questions and more in this workshop.
Discussion topics include:
- Sweater Shapes
- Yarn substitution
- Examining sweaters
- Examining patterns
- Modifying patterns
