2019 Scottish Highland Knitting Retreat - Highland Lodge 1At the Scottish Highlands knitting retreat in Vermont, we’ll explore the rich history of knitting throughout Scotland with tie-ins to the stories and fashions of the Outlander TV show. Our project will be a quick-to-knit shawl that Claire would cherish, with techniques and design elements that reflect the true history of the talented knitters of Scotland.

Never before seen pattern by Donna Druchunas

Soft, tweedy Valley Yarns Taconic is a bulky yarn that’s named after the Taconic Range, known for its natural beauty and scenic landscapes. Taconic is a soft blend of Merino wool and cashmere, with multicolored tweedy flecks that give the finished fabric a fantastic visual texture. This is a great yarn for quick but luxurious projects, like hats, cozy cowls, pullovers and much more.

Supplies will be includes with retreat except for needles.

Yarn: Valley Yarns Taconic bulky Merino and Cashmere!
Gauge: 3.75 sts = 1″ on US 9

Meals

Breakfasts are included with Highland Lodge reservation.
Dinner and  lunches are on your own. Restaurant & Bar is on site. Other restaurants are a 15-30 minute drive.

Thursday
2-5 PM check in
Arrival and settle in at the Highland Lodge
5-6 PM – Meet & greet in the living room.
6-7:30 pm – Dinner on your own.
8-9:30 PM – Relax and knit with the group or spend time on your own to get ready for tomorrow’s classes.

Friday
7:30 AM – 9 AM – Breakfast in the main dining room.
10 AM – 12 Noon – Morning workshop session: Morning workshop session: History of knitting in Scotland slide show. Different ways to cast on for a triangular shawl. Cast on for your project.
12 Noon – 2 PM – Lunch on your own.
2 PM – 5 PM – Afternoon workshop session: Different ways to shape triangular shawls. Begin knitting and shaping on your project
Break
6 PM – 7:30 PM – Lodge restaurant is open for dinner. Sit with the group or on your own.
8 PM – 9:30 PM – Knit with others in the living room or retire to your room to relax.

Saturday
7:30 AM – 9 AM – Breakfast in the main dining room.
10 AM – 12 Noon – Morning workshop session: Learn the pattern stitches for your shawl. Continue knitting to the main body of your shawl.
12 Noon – 2 PM – Lunch on your own.
2 PM – 5 PM – Possible Afternoon excursion to Ball and Skein studio.
Break
6 PM – 7:30 PM – Lodge restaurant is open for dinner. Sit with the group or on your own.
8 PM – 9:30 PM – Knit with others in the living room or retire to your room to relax.

Sunday
7:30 AM – 9 AM – Breakfast in the main dining room.
10 AM – 12 Noon – Morning workshop session: Learn how to work an attached border for your project. Begin knitting.
12 Noon – 2 PM – Lunch on your own.
2 PM – 5 PM – Possible Afternoon excursion to Cloverworks Farm.
Break
6 PM – 7:30 PM – Dinner on your own.
8 PM – 9:30 PM – Final Q&A session & show & tell with Donna Druchunas.

Monday
7:30 AM – 9 AM – Breakfast in the main dining room.
Checkout is 11 AM. Depart the lodge for a day or tourism or you can head home if needed. If you need an extra day at the lodge, please notify staff at reservation time.

Your teacher will be on-site and will be available for questions anytime.
Schedule is subject to change due to unforeseen circumstances. We reserve the right to bring in a substitute teacher if needed.

2019 Scottish Highland Knitting Retreat - Highland Lodge 3Visit that old time Vermont village in Northern Vermont. The Highland Lodge has a very interesting history. Old antiques fill the halls of the lodge as well as the rocking chairs on the porch overlooking the lake to practice your knitting.

Rooms, suites, & all season cabins available. Bring that special someone with you and enjoy some downtime and a wonderful fall vacation in REAL Vermont.

Rooms start at $220 a night double occupancy (4 nights). 

Highland Lodge is located in rural Northeast Vermont. Walking trails, fishing, biking, and a lake is across from the lodge

Named for nearby Lake Parker, our spacious Parker Room features a Queen bed, twin bed, private bath, original artwork and antique furnishings. Rate includes overnight accommodations, hearty breakfast, and free WiFi. Extra sleeping cot may be set up for the extra guest fee. Shared staircase with Porter, Rusticana and Shangola rooms.

Amtrak stops in Waterbury, Burlington and Montpelier Vermont, each about two hours away by car.

At this time we can not provide transportation to and from the Airport or Train stations.


Things to do

There is a beach, boating, canoeing, swimming on the local lake across from the lodge.

Hiking is available right out your door.

Hardwick, VT, Greensboro, VT, Craftsbury, VT have Brewery tours, Artist Galleries, Parks, and places to eat.
