What do military helmets have to do with knitting, travel, and catching snowflakes on your tongue?
Find out in Stories In Stitches 3.
I don’t believe that the universe conspires to help you when you make up your mind to do something. I don’t believe that coincidences have any meaning. I don’t believe in signs and miracles. But I do believe that when you are interested in something, and paying attention, you will find all kinds of related items. Because you are interested and paying attention. It’s sort of like a self-fulfilling prophecy. So why am I going on and on about this? Because in Stories In Stitches 3, Ava has written an article about the history of military helmets and why knitters have had made soft, warm liners for them. The other day, when I went into an antique store here in Wilmington, NC, to take some photos for my sister who does the website for the store, I found these:
I don’t know anything about military helmets (you’ll have to read Ava’s article in Stories In Stitches 3 for that info), but just looking at these, I can see that they would be cold and uncomfortable to wear, even to the point of causing you to get blisters and sores on your head. Soft, warm helmet liners would have made the difference between life and death for many of the wearers.
I also found some interesting articles–about helmets and other things I’m interested in–in a quick google search:
Vt company has contract for 90k military helmets.
These are serious collectors items.
US sending helmets, other non-lethal military aid to Ukraine.
Popular Science Names 3M’s Enhanced Combat Helmets as One of the “100 Best Innovations of 2013.”
I thought we didn’t let our kids play with guns any more? Now there’s kids army gear?
Yeah, that’s a random batch. I really just wanted an excuse to share these photos and tell you to check out Stories In Stitches 3. Cheeky? You bet!
Donna,
this edition is too military for me… I wanted to buy it but I am not a USA patriot and I dislike these military themes…
I think we should try to live in peace and not celebrate war times in the momentary difficult situation (Ukraina….)
Oh my gosh. It’s not celebrating war at all! My stories are totally anti-war. I can see I need to write some different posts that explain that! I hate patriotism.
