Fingerless Gloves Lace Workshop

6 hours (one 6-hour session or two 3-hour sessions)

In this project workshop we will discuss the tools and yarns used to knit lace, review how to follow lace charts, make a gauge swatch, and knit the first of a pair of fingerless gloves.

For the intermediate knitter. Students should know how to cast on, bind off, knit, and purl, and should have completed several projects. Students must also know how to knit in the round on double-pointed needles.


Morning / Session 1        
Discuss my research and trip to Alaska
Special stitches used
Charting review
Make a gauge swatch
CO and begin knitting


Afternoon / Session 2
Relax and knit!
Working back and forth for thumb opening
Stretchy bind off
Blocking


Materials
Size 3 double-pointed (you may need smaller or larger needles to get gauge, bring sizes 1 to 4 if you have them)
Approx 250 yards of lace-weight yarn of any animal fiber in a light color
Stitch markers
Sticky notes (recommended) or row counter
Basic knitting tools

Handouts will be provided
